Why we care about these contests:

State Legislators?  Aren't Democrats hopelessly outnumbered?  No, it isn't hopeless!  The road to turning the legislature back to blue begins by holding the seats we have: Senator Valerie Foushee, District 23, and Representative Robert Reives II, District 54.  At the same time, Democrats across the State are working hard to elect Democrats in districts where gerrymandering does not rule out Democratic victories.  This will set the stage for further progress in 2016.

Sheriff, District Attorney, Clerk of Superior Court?  The three Democratic incumbents, Sheriff William Webster, District Attorney James Woodall, and Superior Court Clerk Sam Cooper, have proven their capacity to manage their operations efficiently and effectively while demonstrating their expertise in handling the many legal and procedural issues that they face.  At the same time, they embody the ethics and standards that we value highly in law enforcement and legal proceedings.

County Commissioners?  Their actions may impact us more directly on a daily basis than any other level of government!  The quality of the air we breathe and the water we drink, the density and location of new developments and businesses, the availability of funding for important services, are all affected by the Board of Commissioners' decisions.  The Democratic candidates are all committed to planning and funding that will safeguard our natural resources while creating jobs and enhance the quality of our lives.  The current majority Republican Commissioners won by only about 400 votes.  We can replace them with Karen Howard, Diana Hales and Jim Crawford!

School Board?  Our school board is on the front line in implementing the many changes that the Republican legislature and Governor have imposed.  With the current Democratic majority, the Board has been able to pursue practical policies within the framework of challenging new legislation and reduced funding, while maintaining the high quality of Chatham County schools.  We need to fill the vacant seats with Democrats and maintain the Democratic incumbent to continue this work: Del Turner and Gary Leonard and Jane Allen Wilson or Angela Milsaps (vote for one of these two candidates).

Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor?  The District Commission has a multi-faceted role in soil and water conservation. Incumbents John Glosson and Richard Hayes have served us well.

OK, I get it, so why bother to attend?  Our candidates need to feel your support!  Running for office is a long, expensive, draining slog.  Let them know we value their service as they enter the home stretch!
